IGNIV Bad Ragaz closes after ten successful years
IGNIV Bad Ragaz will close its doors at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz on 31 January 2026. When it opened in 2015, it set a milestone in Swiss gastronomy: the sharing concept originated here - and has since established itself as a successful and popular form of enjoyment throughout Switzerland. The restaurant family has grown steadily over the past ten years, putting down further roots in St. Moritz, Zurich, Bangkok and Andermatt.
Ten years ago, Silvio Germann settled in Bad Ragaz under the care of Andreas Caminada, laying the foundations for an extraordinary success story. Together with restaurant manager and sommelier Francesco Benvenuto, he brought the art of sharing at the table to great popularity and international recognition within a very short space of time. After just one year, the restaurant was awarded 16 GaultMillau points and a Michelin star. This was followed by titles such as ‘GaultMillau Discovery of the Year’ and ‘Sommelier of the Year’, and finally the 18th point and the second Michelin star.
Talent incubator IGNIV
‘IGNIV aims to offer our young talents a platform to develop within our family and find their own style,’ says founder Andreas Caminada. ‘Silvio Germann was ready for the next step in 2022 and set up his own business in collaboration with us in Mammertsberg (TG).’ The ideal successor was found in Joël Ellenberger as head chef and Susanne Schneider as restaurant manager. In the very first year, the team around the Zurich-born chef confirmed the two Michelin stars and continued the concept with new flavours and a lot of passion.
As part of the reorganisation of the culinary offering and the renovation of the Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz AG has decided to end its collaboration with IGNIV by Andreas Caminada. "The IGNIV has received international recognition from guests and critics over the past ten years and has also become a figurehead for the region, which makes me very proud. However, I respect the Grand Resort's decision," says Caminada.
10-year anniversary
Before the chapter ends, the team and its guests look back on ten enjoyable years of IGNIV Bad Ragaz - and celebrate this anniversary in style. The anniversary week starts on 3 December 2025 with a four-handed ‘Caminada x Ellenberger’, followed by a ‘Back to the Roots Night’ with Silvio Germann and Francesco Benvenuto. A ‘Vibe Night’ in collaboration with Caminada partner Dom Pérignon, a ‘Bring & Share Your Own Bottle Lunch’ and an IGNIV six-hander with Daniel Zeindlhofer (IGNIV Zurich) and Valentin Sträuli (IGNIV Andermatt) round off the programme.
Big plans for Ellenberger and team
‘The sharing philosophy has allowed me to develop in an incredibly diverse way and the IGNIV is and will remain my culinary home until the beginning of next year,’ says chef Joël Ellenberger. The innovative strength of the Caminada Group received additional impetus in 2022 through the partnership with ‘The Living Circle’, headquartered in Zurich. ‘The focus is on new projects, which will be communicated in due course,’ explains Andreas Caminada. Energy is also being channelled into new casual dining concepts that complement the existing fine dining offering. The new projects will thus create space to utilise the Bad Ragaz team for tasks within the Caminada Group.
